Is there an easy way to stay current on the latest CIDER news? What is an RSS?
How this works is ...
1.) CIDER summarizes news in an RSS feeds.
2.) You simply download an RSS reader (aka news aggregator –below are links to some currently available news readers) .
Note - There are numerous RSS Readers available for free or for purchase on the Internet. Some readers are browser based (use a web browser) such as Google Reader . Many of the browser based readers require you to subscribe to their service in some way such as creating an account with them. The other option is a desk top applications (a self contained program) such as Feed Reader . Many are these are free, have the option to enable a handy pop up news notification window, and have a fee for a more robust version.
If you use a browser based reader then you might want to add an extension to your browser so that you will get a pop up window when there are new CIDER news items. For example, for Google Reader, here is a Firefox extension .
3.) After obtaining a RSS reader, click on the orange RSS graphic above our current news items .
Clicking on the graphic will provide the url of
the feed. Some RSS readers will auto-detect an xml file indicating that a
feed is available, or you can select your news reader if your web browser
present a list, or you can copy the URL from the address bar of your browser
and then paste it in the appropriate field of your RSS Reader.
5.) Each time CIDER News is updated the content being viewed in the RSS reader indicates that there is new content. This insures that you have the most current CIDER news.
