New Conceptual Framework Learning Object

Document Actions
This learning object helps students struggling to create a conceptual framework or concept map for a major project or thesis. It includes narratives, examples and resources to guide students through a 5 step voyage of learning. The roughly 2 hour experience with this object will be time well spent by students or teachers struggling with the challenges of grounding their research and developing questions in an appropriate research framework.

One of the best discoveries for me at the recent CADE conference was this Conceptual Framework learning object produced by Faculty at University of Ottawa , Ontario Institute of Technology and Durham College . The overly cute and a bit repetitive metaphor of a voyage guides a student through an introduction to conceptual frameworks, help in forming a research question, the process, steps and examples of creating and refining an appropriate conceptual research framework for a study. The text and related resources provide an overview, but the site is brought to life by the videoclips of a student describing, in detail, her struggles and success at creating a conceptual framework for her education thesis.

Arguably the creation of a map to guide the project is the most important and often the most challenging intellectual work involved in developing and completing a major research project. This site will be useful for groups or individual students at both undergraduate and graduate levels in completing this task.

Congratulations on the collaborative creation and open access sharing of this very timely and valuable resource!!
